What do they call them in English?


In Bengali they call them SHALIK. A pair brings good luck, when spotted - that what's told.
What are these birds called in English?

  • Don't know what they are called in english, but definitely in childhood one shalik used to mean bad luck. I remember while going out specially going to school, if I ever saw one shalik, my eyes kept searching for another one just to avoid that bad luck omen

  • I think these birds belong to the Mynah family. And yes, there is the rhyme that goes with them also - "One for sorrow, Two for Joy...."
