A Strong Email that I got from a friend - replicating as is

Stay back . Lean a little more , stretch a little more . Give that extra effort to convert H1-B to green card , toil a little more at Sahara Dessert to find a way to Spain and try to give that extra bit in you so that you don't have to come back to India for living . Yes , I might sound paradoxical when India is shining as outsourcing jewel . The ground realities are different , the greedy politicians and babus of government will make India a biggest mistake ( Or mess ) of this century .
Arjun Singh , the ailing man of congress has done a job again which will compare him with Saddam for the generations to come . If Saddam has hit hard his masses with abject poverty and tyranny , our dear leader has hit the the coming generations of India hard with a soft blow of reservations . Isn't our government tired of these vote bank gimmicks ? . To add salt to the wound , the puppet prime minister of India and his cronies has agreed for the 93rd Constitution Amendment Bill

(Courtesy :Rediff
The 93rd Constitution Amendment Bill is dangerous.
The Amendment has already made vast majority of Indians second class citizens in their own country, without recourse to redress. The right of citizens to form association for many purposes, including teaching or business, has been curtailed. Someone named Ram Kannan cannot open a school even with his own money, even on his own property, but if he were to change his name to Rob Keenen or Rahim Khan, he would have no interference from the government.
To me this is intolerable intrusion of the government into individual human rights. If I open a school, why should I have to tell the government bureaucrat what my religion is? And if my personal faith changes in the course of time will the conditions under which I am allowed to operate my business or school will change? Who will do the policing of my personal faith? )

Two of the Indians were beheaded in Afghanistan by Taliban . MEA officials could only shake their back before Taliban called shots . When US embassy interferes for their Citizens being caned in Singapore , India never bothers to even cry for her kid. Yes , there was a lonely representative from PMO ( Prime ministers office ) to lay wreath when the coffin of slain engineer arrived from Afghanistan . There were announcements of few lakh of Rupees for the family of deceased .
My Prayers to departed soul of Pramod Mahajan . I join the scores of other Indian in this hour of crisis to support Mahajan family . What all has overlooked is the immense wealth of Mahajan , squabbling over which he was shot dead . His brother Pravin alleges that he is a 2000 crore Man . Not believing him fully , how can a politician like Pramod have asset over even a 4 crore ? . To my knowledge , Pramod was a son of school teacher from Maharashtra and was defence minister for 13 days in first Vajpayee government and IT minister in last government .
And still India adores leaders who have stripped them naked.

Thakurpukur Cancer Hospital

I have not had the best of the experiences with the Thakurpukur Cancer Hospital. While the doctors are good, the basic administration is very bad.
The place is very nice and green and has a 'pukur' (pond) there and lots of ducks. But with ducks comes bird droppings and these are never cleaned.
The hospital still works on paper. While they say, they have computers I am not sure what the computers are used for. A discharge process takes anything from 2-4 hours. The reason, the books have gone for signing.
The nurses are very rude. There is this big stout nurse there who is very rude. She was on a night duty one day and when she was called in the middle of the night, she said she needed her sleep.
The doctors are qualified and good, but there is more to a hospital than the doctors.
Not sure how many share my views on this.

Baby's Day Out

Continuing from my previous post my father , I had to go to the ThakurPukur Cancer Center for treatement and there I saw this scene which brought a smile to my eyes -
The baby was being guarded by the Mom and 'aunties' and it was just for moment to venture off into the wide world when the ladies looked away.

How to deal with............?

How would a person react if one fine day he/she got to know that a near-dear one has been diagnozed with cancer? It was shattering when it happened to me. It started off with 'Oh lets go the doctor'; when my father had felt some discomfort. Then it was 'oh, biopsy report' and a few sleepless nights, waiting and praying. And then the result and you have darkness in front of your eyes. You dont know what to do. "Squamous Cell Carcinoma" is what the report said. You wonder what it means. A search on the Internet does not give you much respite. How does one give hope to a person who is mentally? How do one deal with a situation like this?

The Biggest Project of my life - finding a house in Salt Lake Area

Hmm, this seems to be the most difficult project that I have ever worked on. Getting a place to stay in Salt Lake and not paying tooooooo much. It seems houses are there, but what is needed is a local person who knows the area and can help.

Taal Shash and boredom

Hmmmm...........I have been trying to keep myself busy by walking around. Well for one, the aim is to look for an apartment/ house. Today I had a look at a few houses and all were above 12000 rupees per month, rent. I think that is a bit too much. Most were houses and 2 were flats (apartments). One was bare - work was in progress but somehow the area seemed very congested - this was the EE block in Salt Lake. The other one, I dont remember the block, the flat was nice - a 3BHK, the guy was asking for 18000. Now is it because I am introduced as someone from IBM who has come from Delhi that the price is hiked, I have no clue.

Well, anyway in the evening I went for a walk. Its very boring here all alone. Where to go, what to do. Yesterday I was in City Center, but then (a) theres not much I can do there , and (b) I am alone. Anyway while walking I saw this guy selling TAAL SHASH. I have no clue what it called in English. Taal is some kind of a palm and shash means the pith of the palm. When I first saw the guy I thought he was selling tender coconut but a closer look revealed that it was not so. A closer look and I took a picture. Here it is below.........

City Center and 36 China Town

Now that I am here in Salt Lake (Kolkata) all by my self, theres nothing to do. I am reading and just finished DaVinci Code. Just LOVED the book and I plan to re-read the book and then watch the movie. Anyway, so today I was so bored. I decided to walk to City Center - a shopping Mall. The walk was about a 15 minutes stroll from GD Block. And I was there at 10 AM. I thought I will go for a movie. I didnt want to see TOM, DICK and HARRY so I got the tickets for the 2PM show of 26 CHINA TOWN.How I spent the 4 hours there, only I know. Well, till 12 PM I just strolled around. Aimlessly explored the area. At 12 I decided to eat. So went a restaurant called HAKKA - a chinese restaurant.I had a lemon pepper chicken soup (I could taste the lemon not much of the pepper), spring rolls, fried rice and spicy prawns. I would rate the food as 7/10. Ambience was good, service was fast. Was out at 1PM and I had 1 more hour to spend. I was a bit surprised to see that City Center did not have a proper book store. I found a small store called CORNER BOOK STORE and was there for sometime. After browsing books, I went to get myself an icecream and I got a Electric Currant at the KWALITY WALLS Stall. Nice thing - a combination of Vanilla, Black Currant icecream with Strawberry Crush (was this a dilute version of Strawberry Jam?) and fruits (mangoes, pomegrantes, kiwi). It was 2PM and off I went to INOX.INOX is the movie plex in the City Center, Once I entered the guard asked me if I was carrying cigarettes. I said No. Hmmm, In Delhi they wouldnt have taken NO for an answer but would have frisked me. Here I went across (and yes, I did not have any cigarettes with me).The show was at 2:10 PM and at 2:07 PM I was seated in my seat - C17, somewhere at the back.Okay, any expecting a nail biting thriller should not watch this. The murder does not happen till about 1 hour into the movie by when Isha Kopikkar has danced (Isha and no dance....is there a movie like post Company ??). The next 75 minutes is to figure out who is the killer. This is not a out and out suspense thriller but a funny thriller. Everyone is funny and brings a smile on your face. Upen Patel has been roped in to get the girls in, Shahid and Kareena look nice. It wasnt a big surprise when the murderer was revealed - I am sure all avid Christie readers would know who killed.Any I am back into my room now and I am still worried - I need a place to stay in Salt Lake fast ........... time is running out.

Hello Kolkata

So I have finally arrived. Its been a week now. I came here last Sunday. Its been nice (kind of) so far. The weather has been extremely nice - it rains nearly every day, so while there is moisture in the air, it is not HOT like Delhi was, I came. All is weel, except that I still do not have a place to stay. Well, let me make a correction - I am out looking for an apartment, that is something that I am not getting. Am in the lookout for that.Went around yesterday looking for a place. The rent is too much. They were asking for 11000 rupees per month for a 3BR house in Salt Lake. Paying that much for a house which was not even in good shape, seemed a bit too much. Well, I am still looking and time is running out - I desperately need something.
